Our main goal is to get sales going so we can donate to the charities with the proceeds from the book. We are very EXCITED! This project is finally getting to the fun stuff of sales, donating to charity, gallery shows, and getting all of the Beards together again!

This book has been the most challenging and rewarding project I have ever done! Every possible setback happened including computers dying, the external hard drive with the book on it failing and having to pay handsomely to luckily get it recovered, to file errors, to ftp errors, to… You name it… It happened! Right down to the bitter finish line… In the last 2-3 weeks working together with our designer Tasso and the Lulu representative that loved our project so much she made it her mission to help us get this book out there… I have barely slept and have been sick w/ two different flu’s trying to get the book out during Movember! But… WE DID NOT GIVE UP FOR 3 YEARS! WE DID IT! YAY! (I still have not slept yet since Monday night and now I am too excited to sleep!)

We want to thank all of our supporters for your faith and patience! We couldn’t have done it without you! Also thank you to my husband Justin Sandler for all of the book text editing and to Tasso our book designer that designed over 478 beautiful pages and is next week working on the director’s cut edition!

I also have to organize a gallery opening. WHEW! I have my hands FULL! That too will be news in the coming near future (crossing fingers) please let me know if any of you can volunteer and/or help in some way.

CAMPAIGN PERKS UPDATES: For those that purchased a campaign perk of a director’s cut of The Beard Book this going to take a bit longer. We had to self-publish the first edition of the book which is VERY costly. And we did not raise enough funds through our campaign to cover all of our costs. While the full version of the book is now on sale, we are going to need a little more time to finish up the director’s cut. Please bear with us, we are working round the clock to get all of this done and we will have your book on its way as soon as we possibly can!

For those of you that purchased an eBook please bear with us as well as we literally just uploaded the print version a couple of hours ago and are still working on the iBook and iNook versions as well as designing a new website for the book sales.

For those if you beards IN the book… You will receive as promised a copy of your photos from the shoot but you have to be patient as well due to the fact that I have over 100 men to send photos to as well as do the other online promotions, web design, etc. and I am only one human. Please note that some were confused and thought that they would get a copy of the book. As stated in the photo release you signed it states “you will receive in trade copies of your photos from the book”. If I gave every bearded model a copy of the book that unfortunately would take away from the charities and at the current self-publishing printing price of $147 each book we cannot afford that. (We didn’t even sell the book for that much in our campaign hoping we would make our goal) Thank you for your understanding and I hope that cleared things up. 🙂 Ask for a copy for Christmas and support a great cause 🙂

THOSE OF YOU THAT DONATED WITH DIGITAL BOOKS AS PART OF YOUR PERKS WILL GO OUT ASAP. WE DID NOT MAKE ENOUGH $$ TO PRINT THE 400+ PAGE BOOKS YET BUT WE ARE NOT GIVING UP! ONLINE SALES WILL START ASAP. We have acquired The Grand Opening Gallery Space for The Beard Book, a DJ for the opening, a gallery art prints printer, a book printer, a book agent / lawyer, and a media wall (those that would like to be advertising sponsors please email us info@thebeardbook.org) I just got back my hard drive a few days ago. I almost lost 8 years of photography but they saved it. I have been working on it this week as much as time allows and then it’s giving my notes to our designer as soon as I get them done. Then it is final designs and print. We are doing this as fast as we can when our volunteer time allows so thank you for your patience and understanding of the date changes. Thank you to those that have donated. We are trying our best with only less than half of the needed funds raised. The Beard Book Update! Good News and Possibly Bad News…

THE GOOD NEWS!! We acquired a book agent and a lawyer. He sent our very hard to do and detailed professional book proposal that was made by Justin Sandler (after having to read a whole book on how to build a book proposal and was very particular) Our agent/lawyer approved it perfect and it was sent to a bunch of major book publishers last week. We have also acquired a gallery for The Beard Book art show / fundraiser and a printer for the gallery pieces and… we have a lead on a local book printer all thanks to Jon-Ryan Alan Riggins and Canvas Shop!!!! The “Possible” Bad News… The external hard drive that has ALL OF MY PHOTOGRAPHY FOR THE LAST 8 YEARS INCLUDING “THE BEARD BOOK” is no longer working so I am working on a solution to the problem. I have all of the retouched bearded photos that are going into the book backed up on a server but I no longer have the original photo shoot which sucks for the beards in the book. I did however pick out my favorites from the shoot and have already retouched all of those photos (Over 500 retouched bearded photos are on the server backup) so the Bearded Models will at least get those photos “when the book is released” (If I cannot retrieve the original files off of this failed drive) I also have to redesign the postcards and such because they were on the same hard drive unfortunately… OK that’s the update!! We should have everything done, indiegogo perks out, “self published” book out (print and online), gallery prints, gallery opening, etc. done and ready to launch by the end of March 2013! YAY!!!

The Beard Book started as just an idea.  It was a project born out of love that grew into something that we had never expected.  This little idea for a simple photography book took on a life of it’s own as it began attracting international attention.  And with that, it also grew into a project with much more meaning than just art as two outstanding charitable organizations partnered up to receive proceeds from the sale of the book.  Our idea of sharing our art has become a mission to raise money and awareness for the Keep A Breast Foundation and the Indiana University Simon Cancer Center – Foundation for Testicular Cancer Research.

We have been working very hard on this book since December 2010.  We have donated as much time and money as we can and it has gotten us far.  But we still have ways to go. Two years later we are now working on publishing, acquiring a book agent, and legal fees at this point, but this is not an easy task.  We need to print sample prototypes as well as prints of individual portraits so that we can hold a gallery fundraiser. If you would like to see this book come to fruition so that we can share this beautiful art and raise money for our wonderful charities, then please donate what you can to our cause.
